My Home is a Glass House

When it comes to transparency around Heim Studios' business practices.

I want you as a customer to have full insight into where the materials come from, and where and how your products are made. My goal is to build trust through transparency and contribute to a more responsible fashion industry.

Our Commitment to Deadstock Materials

The fashion industry is unfortunately characterized by overproduction and waste. Heim Studios is dedicated to challenging this throw-away mentality by primarily using surplus materials and recycled raw materials to the greatest extent possible . This means that I give deadstock, i.e. high-quality fabrics and leathers that have already been produced but not used for their original purpose, a new life. This can be leftovers from major fashion houses' collections, surplus from textile factories, or offcuts from luxury brands. By using these "underutilized resources" I contribute to:

  • Minimize textile waste: Divert materials from landfills and incineration, and extend the lifespan of textiles.
  • Save resources: Reduce the need for new production cycles, which saves enormous amounts of water and energy.
  • Reduce carbon emissions: Avoid emissions associated with the production of new materials.

This approach is not just about offering “green products”, but about taking an active role in driving systemic change towards a more circular system. It also means that many of the products are naturally limited editions, giving each product a unique and exclusive feel.

Material suppliers in Italy

To ensure the highest quality of our surplus materials, we source our textiles and leathers from two innovative Italian suppliers:

  • Zerow (zerow.it) : For the Sail Bag, I source surplus leather from Zerow, an Italian fashion-tech startup that specializes in sourcing unused materials from the warehouses of major Italian luxury brands and manufacturers. Their core mission is “Zero Waste,” and they give these valuable, premium materials a new lease of life by making them available to designers and small businesses like Heim Studios. Zerow is also affiliated with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, a globally recognized organization working to advance the circular economy, which gives us further assurance of their commitment.
  • Fabric House (fabrichouse.com) : I also sourced fabrics from Fabric House, including Tencel, a renowned Italian supplier known for its finest quality from Italy . They operate under an innovative “Circular Fabric Standard,” which ensures that the fabrics are either the result of overproduction or leftover materials from high-end designer productions that would otherwise be destroyed. By purchasing from Fabric House, I help save valuable materials from becoming waste and integrate them into a circular system.

By choosing these suppliers, Heim Studios can offer products made from materials originally intended for the luxury segment, without contributing to unnecessary new production.

Local Production in Norway: Manufacture Oslo

While the materials used have an international journey, the actual production of the Sail Bag is rooted locally in Norway, at Manufacture Oslo in Økern . Manufacture Oslo is a mini-factory and exchange point that helps brands with product development and production in this country.

I have consciously chosen local production, despite the fact that it often entails higher costs, because it is a direct extension of my core values:

  • Quality and craftsmanship: Proximity to production provides full control over quality and the ability to ensure that each product is made with care and precision.
  • Ethical working conditions: I can guarantee fair wages and good working conditions for those who sew the products.
  • Reduced environmental footprint: Local production reduces the need for long transportation routes, which in turn lowers the carbon emissions associated with Heim Studios' value chain.
  • Promoting Norwegian industry: I am proud to support and contribute to the growth of the Norwegian textile and fashion industry.
  • Flexibility and innovation: The collaboration with Manufacture Oslo, which also focuses on sustainable and circular products and is up-to-date on industry developments, gives me flexibility and access to new knowledge within design and production.

By choosing deadstock materials and local production in Norway, Heim Studios strives to create products you can wear with pride, knowing they are made with care for both people and the planet.
